STATEMENT
Gülfidan Özmen is a visual artist who engages with archaeological sites, primitive architecture, ruins, aerial views, and natural materials to explore how historical and modern structures, as well as natural elements, influence our aesthetic and visual perception. She focuses on different materials when practicing her art. In her artworks, using organic elements, paper, glass, and ceramic, she materializes her observations by using every material’s own language. She earned her BFA and MFA from Mimar Sinan University, Fine Arts Faculty, Ceramic and Glass Department in Istanbul. As an artist participating in residence programs at STARworks, NC; WheatonArts, NJ; Open Studio Residency at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, in addition to her solo exhibitions, she has participated in many group shows in her homeland and abroad.
